Today’s goodness #13

All of us want to do something good in life. We want to have an impact in this world. But some of us have different perspectives towards this mindset.

Some of us want to impact the world in order to get recognition. So that people remember us and we get the fame and popularity.

While others want to impact the world and also be recognised, just so that they can inspire others to do something good that they have done in their lifetime.

Let’s all of us focus to live a life that inspires others to also live a life that will inspire the others and the chain will continue. The world will be such a better place to live in!!

How to avoid making decisions under extreme excitement

Most of the time we make decisions that cannot be logically explained, because we made them when we were excited about something. We may be too happy or too much angry over something and make a decision that results in a regret of a lifetime. This is something that we need to avoid at all times, so that our decisions lead us to a path that we do not repent taking.

This is a simple method that I learnt from one of the greatest sitcom the TV shows HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (2004-2015). This is so simple that some of you may avoid it altogether.

In this show, Tracey tells Robin to close her eyes and take 3 deep breaths before making a decision (she wanted to run away from her own marriage because she could not bear the pressure). Then Robin took 3 deep breaths with her eyes closed and when she opened them, she knew what to do (she got married that night)!

So what does it actually do to us? When we close our eyes and take deep breaths, we calm our mind and allow it to logically think through the situation. If the mind is clouded by pressure, anger, excitement or anxiety, the decisions will never be the right ones.

And believe me it works. I do this every single time I am under some external influences or even if internal. This is the simplest technique that can help you make some of the best decisions in life –

JUST CLOSE YOUR EYES… AND TAKE 3 DEEP BREATHS!

English doesn’t show your talent; but it shows your urge to learn something new!!

I have been observing the current trend where most people are having the belief that being able to speak in English doesn’t define your talent or skills. And I am totally in favour of that. But where everyone goes wrong is in the fact that this notion is preventing people from learning English.

There are people who take it as a sense of pride for avoiding English and speaking in their mother tongue. Especially in India, if you are walking on the streets and speaking in English with someone, you will be called a ‘show-off’, just because you are speaking a foreign language.

I don’t understand why people can’t treat English as just a language, just a medium of communication.

Let me give you a practical example of this. Just go out into your locality and pretend you are talking over the phone in English. You will see people giving you weird looks as if you are trying to act cool in the public. And this will happen!

I mean, if you can talk in your mother tongue and also in Hindi, everyone is okay with that. But the moment you switch to English, you are weird!

And what is most heartening to see is people holding high positions in the society have minimal knowledge about speaking in English and they don’t even try to improve. I have seen many of my professors who will give lectures in completely wrong English, year after year, and they have no intention of improving it.

All I want to convey is that learn English. It will not only help you grow a new skill, but will help you to communicate with people all around the world. You don’t have to be literary expert, just know how to speak English correctly so that you have to face any difficulty just for not knowing a language that is prevalent all over the world.

English won’t define your abilities, but it will surely define your hunger to improve.

Cheers!

Whenever you face a hard time in life, stay put. Don’t let yourself loose. Hold on tight. Grind it out. Have patience.

Life will test you with many obstacles. If you have perseverance, you will win. There is no doubt about it.

You may have seen batsmen playing in tough batting tracks and unable to score. But the ones who grind it out and don’t give their wickets away, are the ones who succeed in the end.

Be that patient batsman!
